Aerodynamic

"Aerodynamic" is the second track on Discovery and features a guitar solo - performed by session guitarist Pharrell Williams collaborator Romanthony - that runs for the final two minutes of the track and has no real equivalent in electronic music. It shouldn't work as well as it does: a shredding, melodic lead guitar over a French house groove. It works completely.

In the context of Interstella 5555, "Aerodynamic" soundtracks the alien band's kidnapping and transformation into human pop stars - a sequence that gives the track's escalating intensity a visual home that it carries perfectly.

Live during Alive 2007, "Aerodynamic" was woven into the finale sequence alongside "One More Time" - the guitar solo element was preserved in the mix, making it one of the rare moments in the tour where a specific musical detail from the studio recordings was treated as non-negotiable rather than a component to be blended away.
